Washington State BIPOC and Disability Advocates Zero In on Highway Spending

On March 9, advocacy organizations Front and Centered and Disability Rights Washington held the first of a series of press conferences calling for Washington State legislators to halt spending on new highways. Instead, the coalition urges lawmakers to prioritize investments in building missing sidewalks and creating reliable transit and paratransit systems to serve all Washington towns and cities.

Advocates to Feds: We Need a New Traffic-Control Manual

A coalition of leading transportation professionals is pushing for an overhaul of the manual that sets many of the most dangerous design guidelines for our car-focused roads — and rejecting a piecemeal public comment process that they say will only put a band-aids over the gaping wounds in our unsafe national transportation standards.

New ‘Controlling Criteria’ Will Make Sidewalks, Bike Lanes a Default Feature In Massachusetts State Road Projects

While many state highway bureaucracies treat bike, pedestrian, and transit infrastructure as an afterthought, new MassDOT highway engineering guidelines will require traffic engineers to include sidewalks, crosswalks, bus stops, and high-quality bike facilities when they design upgrades for the Commonwealth's major roadways.
