Where would you like to see a few blocks dedicated to pedestrianism, where "urban strollways" and bikeways could exist without without the threat of car crashes or noise and air pollution? 

Atlanta is set to spend more than half a billion dollars to build a 22-mile light rail line — but the vital public infrastructure won't likely be done until 2050 because the city isn't getting state or federal funding. And that's the problem.

Chicago, Boston, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia have suburban rail systems that serve only 2 to 6 percent of commuters — but better and more-frequent service could appeal to people who are currently forced to use a car. 

Smaller cities with limited budgets present particular traffic-safety problems. Here's how some transportation planners managed the issues.

Using autonomous vehicles as a chance to shape streets for people.

This video chronicles the the lack of a sidewalk East 35th Avenue at Colorado. The street is a major pedestrian thoroughfare for people in Northeast Park Hill to get to 40th & Colorado Station. 

Visitors to Cheesman park are doing it all wrong. A few weeks ago, at least a dozen signs popped up right in the middle of informal trails where people run and walk. They direct people to use official paths. But pedestrian advocates say that such paths show where people want to go and that officials should respond by building formal trails in those locations.
