As fewer people ride transit — in Denver and across the country — local governments and transit agencies blame a number of factors without discussing speed of service. But slow buses, combined with other elements of poor service, are a critical factor in declining transit ridership across the country.

If they're loud enough, a small group of people can sabotage transportation projects that would benefit the entire city. To prevent that from happening, supporters of good transit and safer streets need to speak up for these projects, and the time to speak up for bus rapid transit on Colfax is now.

Denver Public Works Unveils Plan for True Bus Rapid Transit on East Colfax Avenue

Denver Public Works wants to give buses their own lanes down a center strip of the city's busiest bus corridor, complete with "enhanced" stations that speed up the boarding process by letting riders pay beforehand and board at any door. Traffic signals will give buses priority at intersections.
